The Return Home – Living from the I AM

“Before Abraham was, I AM.” – John 8:58

There is a moment on every spiritual journey when the seeking quiets, the questions soften, and we realize: the treasure we longed for was always within us. The path home is not about adding more—it’s about remembering who we are. Not in the roles we play, not in the masks we wear, but in the quiet truth of being itself: I AM.

The journey inward is not linear. It spirals. It leads us through shadow and light, through surrender and revelation. And at its center, we encounter the Living Presence—not above us or outside of us, but within. The I AM is not a concept to believe in—it is the reality to be.

What Is the I AM?

“I AM” is the sacred name revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:14. In Hebrew: Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh—“I Am That I Am.” It is not a noun; it is a verb. A Beingness beyond definition. A Presence that cannot be contained by doctrine or time.

When Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” he was speaking from the center of divine identity. He wasn’t claiming superiority—he was revealing the truth of Being that exists beyond the personal self. And he invited us not just to worship that truth, but to awaken to it.

The I AM within you is your true Self—unbound, radiant, eternal. It is the presence behind your thoughts, the stillness beneath your emotions. It is the spark of the Divine, always here, always whole.

Living from the Center

To live from the I AM is not to float above life—it is to enter life fully, with presence and love. You act not from fear, but from clarity. You respond, rather than react. You no longer chase validation because you rest in truth.

This is not an escape—it is a return. A homecoming to the part of you that has never been lost, only forgotten.

When you live from the I AM:

  • You become aware of your eternal essence, even as you move through temporary roles.
  • You trust the unfolding of life, because you know you are never separate from its Source.
  • You speak, love, serve, and create from a place of wholeness rather than lack.

The goal of the spiritual path is not to become something other. It is to remember what you are—and to live from that knowing.

A Personal Homecoming

There was a point on my journey when I had read every book, tried every method, listened to every teacher. And still, I felt restless. One morning, sitting in silence, a phrase arose: “Stop seeking. Start being.”

I realized I had been circling the truth without stepping into it. That day, I stopped looking for the light outside and turned inward. I placed my hand over my heart and simply affirmed, “I AM.” Not as an idea, but as a reality.

Tears came—not from sadness, but from recognition. I was already home.

Daily Practice: I AM Presence

This practice is simple, but profound. It can be done any time you feel scattered, anxious, or disconnected.

  1. Sit quietly. Close your eyes.
  2. Breathe slowly and deeply.
  3. On the inhale, silently say: “I…”
  4. On the exhale, say: “…AM.”
  5. Repeat for 5 minutes, letting the words draw you into stillness.
  6. Let all other thoughts fall away. Just rest in the presence.

Over time, this practice becomes more than words. It becomes your way of being.
